Listening to music. When I want to relax, I turn to music not TV or films. I don’t even have a telly. Just music is enough for me. It entertains my soul better than television. I love watching movies, though. But I don’t like watching TV constantly. That’s why I got rid of the television set. I love music so much sometimes I doubt myself: Why do I want to be an actor not musician? But I love acting as much as I love music. I just don’t think I have the talent to be a musician. So, I’m happy to just pursue my dreams as an actress and a filmmaker instead. But some people do possess both skills. Just not me, which is fine 🙂
Last weekend music festival in Hyde Park was amazing. But performance that I liked the most was Stevie Wonder. Although, so many people were disappointed that there were sound problems, so much that they left the festival mid show. It’s also raining. But for me, I didn’t mind. Seeing him perform live was what I wanted. So the poor sound didn’t affect me that much. It was worth it, in deed. Once-in-a-lifetime. Why not? The rest was ok. Celine Dion’s performance was also fantastic. But I am not a fan of her music that much, compared to Stevie Wonder. So, it was ok. I love music. So it was great seeing all legends onstage for real. Even though I wasn’t a fan of some of them.
British Summer Time Hyde Park music festival is here! Celine Dion will open the festival today. Can’t wait to hear her voice for real. I don’t think I can see her clearly since the people coming to festival will be massive. It’s ok just to hear her voice. What a lovely sunny day. I will be going out shortly, heading to Hyde Park for the concert. It will be a long day today. The sun is shining and all that. Perfect for attending the music festival. After this blog post, I will take a shower, get dressed, then I’m all set. I might have some great photos to post later on.
I managed to contact some candidates for my horror short “Blood Type O” before I go out. I spend at least a few hours or so each day to recruit cast & crew for my film. If I didn’t do that I wouldn’t be able to get the people ready for the filming dates. So I have to do whatever I can to assemble all cast & crew as soon as possible. Doing something each day is better than nothing, even just for a couple of hours. I’m also very busy with lots of things. So managing my time wisely is crucial.
It’d been a very warm weekend. I enjoyed the weekend at music festival in Finsbury Park. It’s something totally different from my daily life. It’s good to experience something new, sometimes. I love music and love going to music festivals. The atmosphere at the festival was very cheerful yesterday. People were enjoying the music, dancing and singing along. It’s always like that at the music festivals, though. That’s why I like attending live music or concerts or music festivals. It’s something I always did when I was a bit younger with a group of friends. It’s just an adventure to remember, listening to music, wearing fun & fabulous clothes, eating, walking around, enjoying the whole new experience, and living like a gypsy for a day or two, depending on how many days you plan to be there, or how many days that festival you attend lasts. Time stands still when you are at music festivals. There are only happy people, singing, dancing, and partying all day long. You just live your life to the full when you are there and let the music take you to a whole new world.
Festival time is just right around the corner. When I say festival, I don’t mean film festival, I mean music festival. I loved going to music festivals when I was younger. So, this year, I will try to go to music festivals again after a long break. I think, last time I went to music festival was in 1,999 or 2,000 when I still lived in Denmark. The year when the disaster took place in which about 9 or 10 people died during Pearl Jam concert at Roskilde Festival in 2,000. Or maybe I went to the festival the year before that. I just can’t quite remember. Anyway, we attended various concerts while we were at the festival. And I must say, Marilyn Manson’s show was out of this world. It’s one of my favourites. I am not a total fan of his music. Maybe a few songs. But his performance was phenomenal and entertaining.
But then something horrible and unexpected occured. What happened was that my friend was a devoted fan of Marilyn Manson. So she dragged me to the front of the stage, so that she could see him clearly. Everything looked good so far. But as soon as Marilyn Manson walked onstage, everybody was rushed to the front. And I am a tiny person. So human current pushed me far back into the middle of the audience, separating me from my friend who was still at the front of the stage. But only because she clasped the railing in front of the stage tightly, to save herself. But she’s also very tall and stronger than me. I could then feel my body was rapidly going down and down, and could barely see the sky because lots of people just jumping over me heading to the front of the stage. Just before something went horribly wrong, I could feel a hand grabbed my hand and pulled me through the mass and out of that madness. It was a big guy. I don’t quite remember if he was a security staff or just one of the concertgoers. But he saved my life definitely. The situation was exactly similar to what happened during Pearl Jam concert at Roskilde Festival in Denmark in 2,000. And if he didn’t haul me out of that huge crowd, I am almost certain that I would not survive.
After that life and death experience, I never return to the music festival again. This year, I am going to do it.
I have revised my drama script to page 20 today. I will not do more for today. I will continue with the assessment tomorrow for 10-20 more pages. Then, I will have rewritten about 40 pages so far. During the weekend, I will try to finish the rest which is about 60-80 pages left. So, 30 pages on Sat. and 30 pages on Sun. All together will be about 100 pages screenplay. Well, if I aim to have only 100 pages. If I want 120 pages manuscript, then I may have to do the rewrite about 40 pages on Sat. and 40 pages on Sun. as well. I think, it looks more manageable now when I break it down into small chunks for each day to complete it. 40 Pages each day is achievable since I already wrote the script. This is just to correct the grammar and add or subtract something. 3 More days, then my screenplay is completely done!
If I didn’t win any competitions, then I would make the movie myself. I am almost certain about that. Yes, I plan to send my drama screenplay to various contests. But since I want to, perhaps, make the movie myself, so it doesn’t matter that much if I win or not. The story is personal to me. I will therefore most likely to make the movie myself. I just want to send it to competitions, just to try because I have never sent a script to win a prize before. So, it could be interesting. I think it would be a good experience regardless. So why not? Then, in the meantime, I have time to run around and make my horror short “Blood Group O.”
After I have got the drama screenplay out of the way, I will start practising my film pitch for fund to make the feature film after the short film. This is going to be fun, pitching for fund. I have never done it before. So, I have to be well-prepared. But I have been talking about my film concept almost daily and to practically everybody I have met. So, hopefully, doing the pitching shouldn’t be that challenging for me 🙂
It’s a strange paradox that I find it’s difficult to concentrate on writing when I’m in a public place because of the noises such as cafe, restaurant, but while I work on my script at home I often listen to music at the same time which seems to help me write quicker – and sometimes loud music. But, I can’t work with noises at home either, but when it comes to music then is fine. In a public place is different, I can’t focus at all even though there is music.
Music works for me only at home. In fact, I capitalize on music to a great extent in which I write even faster and better by listening to music while I’m writing. The past 2-3 days, I listened to music constantly while I was working on my screenplay, and that’s why I could finish it, at long last. Therefore, I don’t really work on my screenplay outside of my home since I can’t keep my mind on writing anyway with a cacophony of all sounds.
But many found success in writing, which could be songs or books, in public places such as in a pub, restaurant. I could never do that. I have tried, but unsuccessful. But writing at home with music on seems to work for me perfectly. Music allows one scene to segue into the next. And things seem to flow out of my mind naturally. And that’s why I could write my screenplay smoothly and quickly till the FADE OUT within 2-3 days. Before, I tried to work on my script without music and didn’t really get anywhere. When I started listening to music while I was writing it worked like magic.
And this method is not new for some writers. Some writers or authors use music to inspire them and help them write more creatively and passionately. I find it to be true now.
I need to take a break from working on my screenplay and listen to music for a while, after having been working on my screenplay all day long . It’s looking good so far. I’m really happy with it. I try to write 20 more pages tonight. Then, I will have completed the first half of Act 2. I have been drinking lots of coffee all day. So I think, I may be able to produce 20 more pages tonight. If not I will just try to write as much as I can tonight. I don’t have to stand up early tomorrow morning. So I can go to bed as late as I want to.
Now the time is only about 10:30pm. I think, I can go to bed around 1am if I decide to write 20 more pages. That’s about 2.5 hours to write. I don’t know if it’s enough to write 20 pages? Anyway, I will try. The most tricky part is Act 2: How do you keep the entertainment alive throughout Act 2? I’m not worried about Act 3 that much because I already have the answer for Act 3 or have already written Act 3 – just roughly. But Act 2 is the longest part and the most difficult one. So, I have to focus more on it and make it as gripping as much as I can.
I have already made an outline for the whole screenplay. But still, I have to really come up with some exciting scenes that keep the readers turning pages throughout the script, especially Act 2. Otherwise, it will be a boring screenplay. And then when I send it out it may be used as a doorstop instead. Or even worse, it may be chucked in a bin after just the first page. Or even just after the first paragraph. So I really pour my heart & soul in Act 2, to create a harmony for the whole script.
Have you ever read a book or seen a film that seems exciting in the beginning, but then toward the middle of it your interest in continuing with it disappears? So, I try to avoid that. I want it to be captivating throughout. Some of the books that I couldn’t put them down till I finished reading them were The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo (I have only read it in Danish or Swedish. I have never read it in English), Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code, The Girl on The Train, for instance. So I try to achieve that, which would be excellent if I could do the same with my screenplay.
I went to contemporary dancing class again yesterday. Now my body feels amazing. I don’t remember the steps that much because I don’t really practise at home. So today, I will try to practise a little bit. Then, I will continue to attend the class once a week. So I better can remember the choreography and get used to the routine. I may attend jazz dance as well. So, two days dancing once a week: Contemporary & Jazz dances. Then also yoga and martial art classes once a week. Then I’m good. I can feel when I keep exercising regularly my body becomes more robust and lithe. After the dancing class, it feels like I am dancing every time I move my body to do something, even making coffee, walking around in my studio flat. I don’t feel easily tired as I was used to. Another reason that makes me keep working out is that I want a more toned body besides learning new skills. That’s one of my goals this year.
I feel like attending a martial art class as well today. But, I also want to finish my screenplay as soon as possible. Now that I know what it needs to improve. The sooner I am done with my script the better, so that I can move on. But exercise is also very vital. But I had already been to dancing class yesterday. So, it should be okay. Well, I am not so sure. I may attend martial art class anyway later on today.
Time to take a break from writing and listen to music instead. Music helps me relax. I like Coldplay, which is one of my favourite bands. I also like Amy Winehouse, PJ Harvey, The Rolling Stones, for instance. So, whenever I have a writer’s block or too tired to continue to work on my script I stop and listen to music. And it helps to some extent. I’m even thinking about going to a singing class, not to become a musician, but to improve my vocal which is also vital for actors. I don’t know, yet. But it’s a possibility.
I’m running out of milk. I can’t drink coffee without milk. And it seems, it will be a long night for me today since I plan to finish revising Act 1 today, or get Act 1 done as much as possible. And I need lots of coffee to be able to stay awake. But no milk. So I don’t know how it’s gonna work? And I live in a village. There are no shops nearby. There’s a few shops about 20 minutes walk away. But they closed at 8pm already, so. I will try to drink just black coffee, then.
