Yesterday, I started creating the very first movie poster for my upcoming horror short “Blood Type O.” I also have lots of applications from cast & crew that I have to catch up on. Then, I have some self-tape auditions that I have to do and send as well for my acting career. I also have to be on set and work. So I’m getting really busy for the time being. But this film “Blood Type O” is something I want to get made so badly and as soon as possible. So even though I am very busy with so many things at the minute, I must find time to make this film. It’s based on a true story, by the way. Since I have so many applications that I have to go through, I will have to postpone the filming till next month instead. I just want to find the right people to work with. If this film is going to gain lots of attention, which I hope, I am also going to make a feature film out of it and the name of it is “The Existence.”
I already plan its feature film version ahead. I have done the outline, and now I’m in the process of working on the treatment. I might already have written the treatment and the first draft. I am working on 4-5 different screenplays at the moment. So I can’t quite remember if I have already written its feature film script? I must go through all the manuscripts I have written, to be sure. Anyhow, if I am going to turn it into a feature film, I am likely to use the same cast & crew again. And that’s why I select people with care, who I really like to work with, since it could turn out to be a long collaboration.
This horror short is just a pitch for fund to make a feature film. As soon as I have completed the film, I will start raising fund through crowdfunding and sending it to film festivals to get noticed. It will be an exciting, challenging project. There’s a lot to do to get this film made. But I enjoy it. I love what I do. I pour my heart & soul into it. So I don’t see it as something unachievable. The best thing to overcome obstacles is to plan it well ahead, so that you can foresee any problems that may arise and prevent them in good time. I began to write and develop the idea since last year. So I know exactly where I’m going.
Now I will relax and watch a good film. I watch movies not just for the sake of entertainment. I see films to learn something about filmmaking as well. I also work on film sets myself as an actor. So, every day, I automatically acquire new insight into the business of filmmaking via the work that I do. No film school needed.
I have added more actors which are the main male actor and the demons. I have spent my Sunday posting job posts on some sites, seeking additional cast & crew. I need one more male actor to play the boyfriend of the lead actress, which is me. Then I also need some supporting artistes to play demons. And plus, a 3AD as well. You can view all the job posts on Shooting People here if you’re interested in applying https://shootingpeople.org/production/work/project/14737
You can also apply on Starnow here https://casting.starnow.com/listing/1012943/
If interested in one of the positions or know someone who may be interested, you can also send me your recent CV, headshot, and showreel to email@example.com – or forward my email to your friends, who may want to apply.
Initially, I planned to shoot the film the first week of this month. But I had been busy for the past couple of weeks. So I didn’t have time to search for cast & crew. So I had to postpone the filming dates till around 22-23 June this month. So now, I really have to look for the remaining cast & crew. I want to start shooting this film as soon as possible. I get a feeling, it will be an exciting horror short film “Blood Type O.” That’s why I work day & night to get this project off the ground asap!
I have a few more filmmaking projects cooking. So, I might want to work with some of the cast & crew again in my next projects if we worked well together. I just love filmmaking. I just feel so excited to start each new filmmaking venture. I might edit the film myself as well because I knew more than anyone else how I wanted the film to look & feel. But if I could find someone who would understand how I wanted the film to look, then I wouldn’t edit the film myself since I would be busy with lots of other things. Can’t wait to get the camera rolling soon!
I have posted my horror short job “Blood Type O” on Shooting People again, looking for film crew once more. I planned to film in early June, which is now. But I had to postpone the filming till late this month instead partly because I had sent my script to some contests and didn’t win, and partly because I had to rewrite the script. I could try to submit my screenplay again to more competitions. Because, I only sent my script to just 2 screenplay contests which didn’t win. But I won’t anyway since I then have to wait for the result, which will take some time. I can’t wait for it. I want to start filming as soon as possible. I just need the film to be made now. I can’t continue to delay it. I don’t care if it’s good or bad. I will just keep making films, until I am good at it. While people are still deciding whether to like my film or not I will make another one, and another one, and….
Right now, I only need a DOP, VFX editor, sound recordist, and a boom operator. Then, I can start shooting as soon as I have all cast & crew ready. I already have the rest of cast & crew. So, only 4 positions to be filled. I still have applications coming in daily. I just haven’t had a chance to respond to all of them, yet. I will tomorrow.
So if you are a DOP or sound recordist or VFX editor or boom operator and interested in being part of this horror short, please email your CV and showreel to firstname.lastname@example.org
Alternatively, if you are on Shooting People please feel free to apply directly there as well https://shootingpeople.org/production/work/project/14737
The reason I want to get the camera rolling for my horror short asap is because I have already written a new drama short script and a feature-length drama screenplay. You may wonder why I jump from writing a horror screenplay to drama. I just want to try my filmmaking skill in various genres, to try to find the genre (s) that I like the most. So, I also want to start filming the new drama films as soon as possible. That’s why this horror short “Blood Type O” must be made now before I can start on a new one.
I have been looking for a DOP and SFX makeup artist all day long. And it begins to yield a fruitful result. I have now found a SFX makeup artist. Now, one more film crew I need is the DOP/cameraman. Then, my film is ready to be shot as soon as possible. When you really look for something, you will find it. It’s as simple as that. I will take time off now before continuing to take pains to search for the DOP later on today. I’m gonna watch a good film and have my lunch. I feel like watching a comedy, to relax my mind and have a laugh a little. Maybe, I will have a glass of red wine as well. But maybe not. I try to refrain myself from alcohol while I’m working on my filmmaking project, so that I can concentrate on it 100%.
I decided not to go to a market anyway today. Too busy to go anywhere. Once my filmmaking project is over, I can relax. I’m really passionate about this horror short “Blood Group O” project that I need a good focus and be hard working to bring it to life. I get a feeling, it’s gonna be a very exciting project with a good plot and talented cast & crew. I can’t wait to get the camera rolling asap. After seeing a movie, which I will in a minute, I may start planning the shoot, crafting a call sheet, making a budget, and all that ready. When you prepare yourself well in advance, you feel more confident with the creation of your art.
I have everybody applied for all positions that I have advertised looking for film crew for my horror short “Blood Group O” but VFX makeup artist? Why nobody applies? I can see, there’s a lack of it in film industry. There are some, of course. But not as many as normal makeup artist, DOP, photographer, runner, AD, sound recordist, editor, and so on. Because, if there are as many as other crew members, sure someone would have applied. But, I get zero application so far. But I get lots of applications from everybody else. So I consider, maybe I will just take a VFX makeup artist class and do it myself. Maybe it’s easier. Waiting for some to apply could take me ages for that to happen. If I took the (VFX) makeup artist course from the beginning when I first posted the ad, which was about a few weeks ago, I might have completed it by now and be able to apply the VFX makeup myself. Then, there are fewer crew members to hire. I’m also an amateur photographer. So, learning how to apply makeup professionally could also benefit me. Because, I could also apply the makeup for the models myself. So I might enrol myself in (VFX) makeup course. I am going to shoot my film soon. But, I might postpone the filming date until I have completed the makeup course. I have been working in film & TV for the past 15 years and know, there are plenty of jobs within film industry alone. So, it creates lots of work in various sections, departments, and many more – both working on the film set itself and in the office. But many may not realise that. I forget that myself. But when I started searching for film crew not long ago, I could see that I just look for film crew for my 5-minute short film, but I need almost 10 crew members, and maybe more. And when I work on set myself, I can see there’s an army of film crew working on an actual feature film. So, there’s a lot of jobs just for 1 movie to be made. And surprisingly, the payment is quite good, compared to traditional jobs. And one of the best parts of it is that, you do not need high education to be able to do most of these jobs. So, it’s very easy for anyone to get hired as long as they have the right skills, hard working, ambitious, passionate about what they do, and so on.
What I now need are a runner/3AD and a makeup artist for the making of my horror short, “Blood Group O.” The rest of the film crew, I think I almost have them in place. My search will continue, until I have everybody ready for the shoot. I’m getting there. So if you’re either a runner/3AD or a makeup artist and interested in collaboration with me please email me with link to your work asap at email@example.com
I get the feeling, it will be a good horror short. This will be my first time making a horror film. I can’t wait to get the camera rolling! I will be very busy throughout May, this coming month. I have to prepare the filming of my short horror film “Blood Group O.” Then I also have to start pitching for fund to turn it into feature film, attending several filmmaker events, working on set myself, preparing for the film festivals, writing my screenplay, and many more. May will therefore be an exciting month for me because I like being busy with the things I love doing.
I also enjoy going to filmmaker events, especially for indie filmmakers. I get to meet like-minded people, make connections, network, gain more insight and knowledge in the industry, and many more. I exchanged lots of business cards with the people I met at the events in the past. But I often threw them away because I wasn’t that serious in filmmaking at that time. I only focused on acting. Now I regret it for discarding thoses business cards since now I can really make use of them. You never know you will need them later on at some point in your life. I have learned my lesson now: Never throw any business cards or contacts out. Now I have to start all over again. Oh well, it’s not too late. There are lots of talented people out there I have yet to meet.
I have been searching for film crew all day long for my upcoming short horror film “Blood Group O.” I have made some progress. I think. All the hard work begins to pay off. You can only succeed if you are persistent and believe in what you do. Now most of the job is done, looking for film crew. I will continue to work on my drama screenplay tonight. I have also a drama script that needs to finish as well. I will try to work on it as much as I can tonight. Then, it’s out of the way. Then I can concentrate on making my short horror film once I have all cast & crew ready. Then, noting is in the way. So, it’s important that I complete my drama screenplay as soon as I can. I will see how much I can get it done tonight and tomorrow. I’m still in the process of getting all cast & crew together. So, I can’t start shooting the film yet anyway. I have therefore time to work on my drama screenplay in the meantime. I must then utilise the gap in between to a full extent by completing my drama screenplay. I do have lots of coffee to keep me awake at night, to work on my drama screenplay as much as I possibly can tonight. I wish, I had insomnia. Then, maybe I could finish my screenplay faster when I can’t sleep….hehe.
Below are 5 short horror films that I love and find them very inspiring:
I have been searching for cast & crew all day long. It’s a long process, indeed. Looking for actors is simple since there are only 2 actors I need. But looking for film crew is more hard because I need about almost 10 crew members. So I have spent most of my day today doing just that. It’s something you have to do if you want to be an indie filmmaker. You have to do all that yourself since it’s a no-budget or low-budget film. So only the people who are passionate enough to be able to go through this. It’s not easy, looking for the right people to work with. You have to devote all your time to make it happen. And I love what I do. So I don’t mind all the hard work I have to undertake.
Tomorrow, I will go through the same process again. I am only halfway through. I have been sending and replying to messages all day long today. The same tomorrow. I will make this happen. It’s only a hard work for now. Once the film has been made, I can relax. And getting the film made is my reward. And that is what I look forward to. It’s a way of training myself in filmmaking. I find it fun making films and writing screenplays. So although it seems like a whole lot of work starting a film project from the ground. But I enjoy it. I can’t imagine myself doing something else.
I plan to start filming next week or early next month. It depends on when I get all cast & crew ready for my upcoming short horror film “Blood Group O.” That’s why I work hard every day, to get all cast & crew ready for the making of the film as soon as I can. Now it’s time to watch a good film.
Just finished revising my short horror film script “Blood Group O.” Tomorrow, I will continue my search for film crew again. Now that my screenplay is ready and I have the cast ready as well. I will get quite busy now because it’s possible that I may end up having to shoot 2 scenes – instead of one. I will see how it goes. If it’s too much and difficult in terms of location, equipment, and the like, I will just film only one scene and end there. I will work with the planning of my short film project constantly from now on. I want to get this short film made asap. And I want to get it right this time around. It will be of good quality this time. I have learned my lesson from my first short. My second short, I will organise everything and every detail with care. I feel great now since I have got the script out of the way. For me, the manuscript is the most crucial part of the filmmaking. I think. Because, it’s the bedrock of a film. Therefore, I focus on writing a good script first. Then, once I have completed it, I can move on to the next steps: Looking for cast & crew, and the actual filming can then begin.
And now, I am happy with the script, I can then move on. It’s such a relief. Finishing a screenplay is not easy. And that’s why for me, it’s the most tricky part of the filmmaking.
I am making some changes to my short horror film manuscript. Because, I finished writing it last year and forgot all about it since I decided to work on a feature-length drama screenplay – and not to film the short horror film anyway at that time. Now I want to start shooting the horror short film, finally. I then have to go through it again, in case something needs to be modified. I can see, it does require some moderation. Because, I want to take two actors out: The lead actor who plays the protagonist’s boyfriend and the supporting artiste who plays the protagonist’s sister. It’s very difficult to find the right actors in such a short amount of time since I plan to shoot the film this weekend or next week already. I must therefore eliminate those two characters. So only the protagonist, which I will be playing this character, and the doctor roles left. And that can only be good. Then I use less actors. It’s a low-budget short film, after all. I do not need too many characters/actors anyway. I must revise the script tonight, to take some scenes out and see if it still makes sense. Then, when I am happy with it I will send it to the actor to prepare for the filming. After that, I will continue my search for the film crew. I have now my cast ready. What left is the film crew. Then I will arrange the filming date, afterwards. Then, the moment of truth: The actual filming that takes place. I can’t wait! But it’s just for one day. And then the post-production. Then my film is ready to be submitted to film festivals!
On my way home today, I was about to buy beer or wine. But then I remembered that I told myself to revise the short horror film script “Blood Group O” tonight when I got home. So I didn’t buy the liquor. I have to refrain myself from alcohol while I’m working on my screenplay. Even just a glass of wine. I just can’t concentrate when I drink. And when I get up I have headache and feel weird. So no alcohol. Thank you! Only when I go out and have to socialise, then I will drink a glass or two of wine or beer. But not when I’m working. Although I’m a writer working from home, I still treat it as a normal job like working in an actual office or workplace. And when you are at work you don’t drink alcohol, right? After this blog post, I will begin to edit my horror film screenplay straight away.
